Poway Hate Crime Targets Family, Possibly Religion

Someone spelled out the phrase "F the J" in toilet paper on a resident's lawn on July 23.

A hate crime reported on July 23 in Poway may have targeted a family and/or their religion, Sheriff's Detective Todd Richards said.

According to the detective, someone spelled out the phrase "F the J" in the yard of a residence at the 12600 block of Peachwood Court. Richards said the "J" could imply the family's last name, but said it could also be targeting their religion: Judaism.

A barking dog awoke the family at 1:20 a.m. on July 23, prompting the report, according to authorities.

Richards said there are no suspects and that as far as he is aware, the family has not been targeted before.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call the Poway Sheriff's station at 858-513-2800.
