Update: Poway Motorcyclist Killed in 6-Vehicle Pileup on I-15 Identified

The crash occurred near Ted Williams Parkway around 10:15 p.m. Thursday.

Updated 9:24 a.m. Friday.

A 24-year-old Poway man was killed Thursday night after his motorcycle ran into the back of another vehicle, triggering a six-vehicle pileup on Interstate 15, officials said.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Daniel Shea of Poway.

Shea and another motorcyclist may have been racing on northbound I-15 near Ted Williams Parkway (State Route 56) around 10:15 p.m. when Shea ran into the back of a Suburban for an unknown reason, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The Suburban had been in a far right lane of I-15 traveling about 60 mph, the spokesman said.

This began a six-vehicle pileup that also left one motorist with a minor injury, the spokesman said.

Shea was taken to Pomerado Hospital, where he died just after 11 p.m. "despite aggressive efforts," according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The crash remains under investigation.

This young man made a choice to disregard not only his own safety, but completely disregard the safety of others. Sorry that his family and friends have to go through this. So thankful that he didn't kill someone else with his intentional recklessness. He did injure someone else, and damaged many peoples cars. Again complete disregard of how this will be effecting their lives. What if he had killed someone in Your family? This was stupidity to the max.

Missy, that is not at all what happened the police report is all screwed up so before you go judging off of a stupid police report think twice about go family members who are mourning. Don't believe every thing you see on the Internet.
Missy January 28, 2013 at 02:23 AM
Nicole, I did indicate that I feel sorry for the family. But where is your proof that the police report is " screwed up" and "stupid"? The CHP Officers that report to preventable accidents like this one, put their lives on the line, taking these reports, directing traffic around the accident scene, and getting help for the victims of the accident. I don't believe everything I see on the Internet. But I do believe that the CHP don't make out "stupid police reports", and that this young man (and the other "racer" involved) will be found to have caused this preventable accident. It was a sad waste.

I know nothing about the details of this accident but I do want to share that just because it is the police who are doing the reports, they are not always accurate. Several years ago I was tboned and my car was totalled on a major road here in san diego by a woman making a blind left turn. I trusted the police to make an accurate report. They didn't! Remember, I was tboned! How could it be my fault? Somehow the accident then became a 50/50 responsibility. My insurance company fought it but lost because of the inaccurate police report!! I learned never to trust the police to make an accurate report if I am ever involved in an accident again and to make my own report as well, which is the law! Yes I do appreciate the hard work the police officers do but I realized that some people are better at what they do than others just like in any job!

You don't know the full situation. Just because you may know someone who hangs around with him doesn't mean that he is the same. Placing blame like this does nothing but make a horrible situation worse. I wish Daniel's family and friends the best. My heart goes out to all of you.

Please do not insist on being involved Tiffany at Elbow Room with the so cal street kings. I am a regular at elbow room and I see the guys have drinks and a good time. They are an amazing club and have a lot of heart for each other and the people around them. I believe there was no intent on making there brothers drink then ride, that's there own choice. The amount of love they have for each other shows me that they would always have each others backs no matter what, yes there fellow rider has gone away in gods hands now but will never be forgotten, R.I.P. "Rain" as they call him... So from the guy at the bar admiring the loving So Cal Street Kings MC, just stay out of it...
Harry Sherwood February 03, 2013 at 07:16 PM
You do what you must Tiffany, but don't say I didn't warn you, your going into an establishment where the people of elbow room have each others backs as well, so must you get into with the So Cal Street Kings I'll shall be there as well to defend these loving people.

Lol Tiffany you are a troll. You sound a like a woman using someone's death to preach about how you want more money from an ex. Go back under your bridge troll. And FYI by you saying you know who was with that person also makes you accountable. Idiot.

First off, I would like to give my condolences to the family and friends of Daniel "Rain" Shea. He was a great man and is missed dearly by all that knew him. Second, I would like to apologize to anyone who was hurt, offended or misrepresented by Tiffany. It is a classless shame to see that a person would choose to use a public site announcing the passing of this young man to attempt to air her personal problems and vendetta while slandering the So Cal Street MC name. Ride in peace Daniel "Rain" Shea. You will be forever in our hearts.
RIPRain February 07, 2013 at 01:16 AM
Thank you Jane I/we appreciate your condolences, and no apologies are needed on Tiffs behalf. We also appreciate Dan & John S's words of support. Tiff made it clear that she was using this forum to deal with her personal problems when she wrote, "I been itching to go there and give u all a piece of my mind he knows that… and I can personally tell u about how this club has ruined him as a father and a man". I'm truly sorry that her life has been so affected by the shortcoming of her man/baby's daddy. I'm also saddened that she apparently has no productive outlet for her frustrations and emotions. In her defense it's not unusual to lash out at others, or try to inflict pain on others, when you're hurting yourself. Especially when you see an opening that you can quickly capitalize on. It's easy to find a scapegoat and lay all the blame on them, warranted or not. But enough about her, well almost. I know that Daniel "Rain" would understand her pain and show her compassion, care for her and offer a helping hand. It's who he was and for those that knew him I ask that you do the same. If not here and now, where ever, when ever the chance arises.. reach out your hand in compassion.

Back to the topic of this article, Missy specifically. Yes Missy, they chose to put themselves in harms way. And in doing so Daniel lost his life, many were irreversibly traumatized and thank god no one else was seriously hurt. There's no excuse, no defense and the details really don't matter. The bottom line is they were riding faster than was safe, with a tragic result. Stupidity, I can handle that. Along with a hundred other adjectives, but none of them change the results. Daniel is gone, many are affected and again, thank god it wasn't any worse than it is. Regarding the possible consequences of his actions, true it could have been worse. However when you begin the 'could' of debate, they 'could' have made it to their destinations without incident. And we wouldn't be here now. That doesn't justify or lessen the impact of his actions. But again the bottom line is What happened, happened. No less no more. Regarding his friends and family, we will survive and in our own ways become stronger than we were before. We will use his remembrance, who he was and how we was to remind us of who and how we can be. In closing I offer.. “God gives his toughest battles to the strongest people”. RIP Daniel "Rain" Shea.

This is just crazy honestly the only people who think they should be speaking in Daniel are the people who knew him. As a person who knew him. I can only imagine the family and friends who happen to come across this if try already haven't. It ceases to amaze me how ridiculous people are on here! I apologize and thank all te people who are on here and hope to see all these John smiths and Jane does at the next bike night.
