Local Family Loses Puppy on Twin Peaks Mountain

Fire crews attempted to retrieve a lost puppy that eventually died.

A search for a lost hiker turned into heartbreak for a local family searching for a lost puppy.

Poway Fire Captain Kevin Hitchcock said a local puppy died Tuesday afternoon after fire crews found it on Twin Peaks Mountain.

Fire crews who thought they were looking for an injured hiker responded and instead found two young boys who had lost their dog. The dog was found with the help of the city of San Diego's Copter 2 but had a seizure and soon died.

Hitchcock said the dog, which was about 1- to 1 1/2 years old, would be brought home to the Poway family.
