Hiker Rescued at Iron Mountain After 'Heat-Related' Event

A helicopter was flown in to rescue the female hiker.

A female hiker needed flight assistance after fainting on the Iron Mountain trail, the San Diego Sheriff's Department said.

According to Capt. Elliot Hunter, from Poway Fire Station 1, a woman in her 40s was hiking from the state route 67 trailhead up to Iron Mountain when she suffered a "heat-related event."

Capt. Shane Montgomery, who works out of Gillespie Field's Cal Fire station, said Copter 10 flew in to transport the hiker from the trail down to the trailhead.

Hunter said she was transported from there in stable condition via ambulance to a local hospital.
