Helmetless Boy on Bike Hit by Vehicle

An 11-year-old boy was bit by a car in Poway on Sunday.

An 11-year-old boy who wasn't wearing a helmet or any protective gear was hit while riding his bicycle across the street in Poway on Sunday, according to the sheriff's department.

The boy was riding westbound in the intersection of Edgemoor Street and Brighton Avenue around 6:22 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle, according to a news release from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

"It appears the collision occurred after the juvenile failed to stop before crossing the street on his bicycle," the release stated.

The boy suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Children's Hospital. The vehicle's driver was not injured and the incident is under investigation, according to the release.
