Four DUI Arrests Made at Checkpoint on Espola Road Friday Night

One person is arrested for driving on a suspended license at the checkpoint operated by the Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff’s deputies conducted a Friday night in the 16700 block of Espola Road, arresting four people for suspicion of DUI and one for driving on a suspended license, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The checkpoint operated from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. and saw 1,055 vehicles pass through, with 28 being directed to a secondary-inspection area, according to Deputy Mark Tally. Six cars were impounded and numerous citations were issued, including two drivers cited for possession of marijuana, two for driving without a valid license and three for driving without their license in their possession.

An additional two DUI arrests were made by deputies working in the area, according to the department.

Two drivers were cited for driving without proof of insurance, one was cited for driving without current registration and one for driving with a passenger under the age of 20, in violation of his provisional license.

Approximately 25 sheriff’s personal worked the checkpoint Friday night, including DUI-trained deputies and senior volunteers, according to the department.
