Elderly Poway Man Drives Into Own Home

The Poway Fire Department assisted the home owner with stabilizing and securing the house, according to the Sheriff's Department.

An elderly man hit a parked car and then drove into his own home on Twin Circle Court Wednesday night, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

According to Sgt. David Cheever, around 7 p.m. on July 24, the man was backing his vehicle out of his driveway when it "suddenly accelerated backwards" and struck a neighbor's parked car.

Subsequently, the man's vehicle accelerated forward and struck his own house.

The Sheriff's Department and the Poway Fire Department were called to the scene, according to Cheever, and the driver was checked out by paramedics, but reported no injuries.

"The Poway Fire Department assisted the home owner with stabilizing and securing the house," Cheever said.  "The Sheriff's Department is investigating the collisions and they do not appear to be alcohol related."
