East County Prescribed Burn and CAL FIRE Increased Staffing

CAL FIRE adds eight engines for peak fire season and advises about a prescribed burn on Thursday.

A prescribed burn will be conducted in East County’s McCain Valley on Wednesday and Thursday, which will be viewable around the county, according to CAL FIRE.

The burn will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Approximately 125 acres of brush will be burned over the next few days as part of CAL FIRE’s Vegetation Management Burn plan and the burn will also be used as a valuable training tool for local firefighters.

CAL FIRE also announced that they increased staffing this week to prepare for peak fire season.

Eight more engines and an extra bulldozer have been brought in. That brings the total brush engines to 26 and three bulldozers staffed every day. The is also fully staffed with two helicopters, two air tankers and one air attack. These units are in addition to the normal 25 engines in the county.
