DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Saturday Night

The Sheriff's Department says they will be stopping drivers in Poway Saturday night.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Department has put out the word that they will be conducting a DUI checkpoint somewhere in Poway Saturday night.

The department issued a press release Tuesday morning announcing the checkpoint, which is scheduled to operate between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. The exact location was not released.

According to the press release, “The focus of the operation will be the apprehension of suspects who are determined to be operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and/or under the influence of drugs or driving while unlicensed/suspended.”

The release was issued by Deputy Aaron Meleen of the Poway station, who has been recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving as one of the . Meleen made 70 DUI arrests in 2011, and 64 in 2010.
