Drivers on Poway Road Friday Night Find DUI Checkpoint

Deputies stop drivers from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m.

Sheriff’s deputies conducted a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint Friday night in the 14300 block of Poway Road. Numerous citations were issued, but no DUI arrests were reported.

The checkpoint, staffed by approximately 25 sheriff’s personnel, operated between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. and had 544 vehicles pass through, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies sent 25 vehicles to a secondary-inspection area, booked five people into custody for driving with a suspended license, and issued six citations for other driver’s license violations, according to the department.

One driver was arrested for possession of marijuana, and one teen driver was cited for being out of compliance with the provisional status of his license, according to the department. Eight vehicles were impounded.
