Blaze Burns Half-Acre of Brush Near Poway

A fire blackened about a half-acre of brush today outside of Poway, and forced closure of state Route 67 south of Scripps Poway Parkway..

Smoke from the brush fire was spotted in the 13900 block of state Route 67, near Sycamore Park Drive, shortly before 1 p.m., according to the Lakeside Fire Protection District and the California Highway Patrol.

The fire was spreading at a slow to moderate rate in medium fuels, according to Cal Fire, which also responded.

Southbound traffic from Ramona on Route 67 was diverted into Poway via Scripps Poway Parkway, and northbound traffic out of Lakeside was being turned around at Slaughterhouse Canyon.
