Issue: Can Carl DeMaio Defeat Scott Peters in 52nd Congressional District?

Peters ousted GOP incumbent Brian Bilbray 51.2 percent to 48.8 percent in the 2012 race. Can the Democrat hold off DeMaio in 2014?

Former San Diego Councilman Carl DeMaio lost to Bob Filner in the November mayoral race, but he's not quite done challenging Democrats. In 2014, he announced Thursday, he'll take on first-term Rep. Scott Peters in the 52nd Congressional District.

“I think we need to challenge the Republican Party to evolve and focus on pocketbook economics and quality-of-life issues in a more positive and inclusive way, rather than issues that are frankly none of government’s business in the first place,” U-T San Diego quoted DeMaio as saying. “I want to be that change by coming in with a fresh and positive agenda.”
