Poll: Could Trayvon Martin Case Happen Here? Killing Called Lynching

Could a similar racially charged incident occur in a gated community of San Diego County?

George Zimmerman, an armed volunteer at a gated community in Florida, says he was acting in self-defense when he fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last month. But when evidence surfaced in case, it was labeled a “modern-day lynching.” And the police chief of Sanford, FL, stepped down temporarily amid massive and harsh publicity in the case. The case involving Zimmerman, depicted by his family as being “a Spanish-speaking minority,” is under federal scrutiny. Could something like this happen here?

I'll settle for just a rational thought from you from time to time.

Really? Ok, well I think we've figured out what's wrong with this,"conversation"...

Agree 100%

The whole point of my post was that it seemed the media was turning it into a cop shoots unarmed kid type of thing, which now is clearly not the case. The shooter is not a police officer. It is unfair to law enforcement to call him a police officer. I personally feel it is important to take a position on this for two reasons. First, to make this guy a cop and convict him in the media (as a cop) does no good for the community. If anything it will make police officers more inclined to stay in their cars. And can you blame them? Trust me. You do not want to live in a locale where the police stop getting out of their cars.. Second, as someone else here posted, it makes the thugs and the gang banger's more dangerous. Just one more thing to slow down the decision making process; and they know it. And if they are not afraid of the police, they are certainly not afraid of the citizens of little old Encinitas. People who post are more likely to vote. The system ultimately places our politicians in charge of the police. So I don't think it's a stupid debate.

Check the facts. Don't look at the photo of Trayvon that is being circulated by the press, it shows a smiling young boy. instead he was , at 17, a very large man, about 6.3" and bigger than Zimmerman. One witness said he was attacking Zimmerman at the time he was shot. That's how he was threatened. What do Skittles have to do with it?
Dave Fenner March 31, 2012 at 04:52 PM
Sounds paraonid. And racist. And if you were attacked by this fellow that was wearing a hoody, and black. you'd let him just get away with it, right?

The circus around this thing is ridiculous. Starting at the top, What is the President doing commenting on a potential state, criminal case? That to me spells automatic mistrial. How could Zimmerman get a fair trial now? The New Black Panthers should be arrested for solicitation of murder. Spike Lee should be sued for erroneously tweeting an address he thought was Zimmerman's. The media needs to stop putting up a pic of 12 year old Martin next to a mugshot of Zimmerman. There will no doubt be race riots unless Zimmerman is hung from the nearest tree (guilty or not), and all of the above folks can be happy knowing that they lit the fuse. Unfortunately, the black community will suffer most because the destruction will occur in their own neighborhoods.
Larry March 31, 2012 at 10:20 PM
The President, as well as 3 of the 4 Republican candidates all made comments about this case. The media is showing multiple pictures of both Martin and Zimmerman.
James Jones April 01, 2012 at 12:01 AM
Larry, I think it's irresponsible of any and all of them to comment and as far as the pictures are concerned, the first impressions have been made.

Hey, remember when the media built a phony narrative about a racist "white hispanic" gunning down a child in cold blood because did I mention he's a racist and even if he isn't we need to drag Barry across the finish line in November? I do. "You will recall the incident of the beating of the black homeless man Sherman Ware on December 4, 2010 by the son of a Sanford police officer. The beating sparked outrage in the community but there were very few that stepped up to do anything about it. I would presume the inaction was because of the fact that he was homeless not because he was black. Do you know the individual who stepped up when no one else in the black community would? Do you know who spent tireless hours putting flyers on the cars of persons parked in the churches of the black community? Do you know who waited for the church-goers to get out of church so that he could hand them flyers in an attempt to organize the black community against this horrible miscarriage of justice? Do you know who helped organize the City Hall meeting on January 8, 2011 at Sanford City Hall?? That person was GEORGE ZIMMERMAN." http://dailycaller.com/2012/04/02/zimmerman-family-member-calls-naacp-racists-says-there-will-be-blood-on-your-hands-if-george-is-hurt/ #NARRATIVEFAIL

The president's exploitation of this incident should, alone, be disqualifying.
Doug Curlee April 03, 2012 at 08:12 PM
o.k., kids.. what do you want to do with THIS piece of information?.. it seems the sanford police department's report on the shooting says that george zimmerman WAS in fact bleeding from the nose and the back of his head when the police arrived on the scene.. that certainly isn't gonna make jesse jackson and al sharpton very happy..but it would seem to confirm that there are in fact two stories about what happened there.. doug
Kathy April 03, 2012 at 08:16 PM
Have you heard of self-inflicted injury? Zimmerman's past pretty much explains it all. I am truly sick of seeing Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton jumping on the Racist Train, though.
Tom Yarnall April 03, 2012 at 08:43 PM
Do you remember in 1987 when the AL Sharpton Express stirred the voodoo racial pot when Tawana Brawley, a 15 year old black, claimed she was raped by numerous white men? It so outraged the black community that people like Bill Crosby gave money to her cause. She finally admitted she was lying. You would think Al would have learned a lesson, but apparently he did not. It's too bad he can't apply his efforts toward the good of all mankind instead of just his hatred for the white man, the vast, vast majority of whom never did and never will abuse anyone based on their race, including me.
Tom Yarnall April 03, 2012 at 08:46 PM
I will wait for the investigation to be completed before jumping on anyone's band wagon.
Tom Yarnall April 03, 2012 at 08:51 PM
Kathy, insinuation and speculation before knowing the facts puts you on the same level as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson
Kathy April 03, 2012 at 09:36 PM
I think not Tom, Jesse & Al are playing the racist card, as they usually do and I am only stating the facts without regards to race. As far as I am concerned, Jesse and Al will never allow the Blacks live in peace with the whites, they would have nothing to do then. The racist card is really getting old and stupid. The color of the person does not define them, their actions do.
Doug Curlee April 03, 2012 at 09:48 PM
so as far as you're concerned, you're "only stating the facts" when you conclude that zimmerman injured himself?.. on what basis do you arrive at that conclusion?..what evidence can you cite to back up that claim? i didn't think so.. dougt
Kevin George April 03, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Can you say " Duke lacrosse team"? I am still waiting for Al Sharpton to apologize for his railroading of those " victims".
Tom Yarnall April 03, 2012 at 10:45 PM
They have found George Z. guilty without knowing the truth, just as you are doing. Be prepared to join the riots should he not go to trial for murder or is exonerated by a mostly white/latino jury.
James Jones April 03, 2012 at 11:10 PM
How about NBC doctoring the 911 call? They got busted, so now they are doing an "investigation". Seems like that should take about 10 minutes. Get the news director, the producer and the editor in a room and ask whose idea this crap was.
Things I Learned April 07, 2012 at 08:02 PM
Hey remember when Attorney General Eric Holder said "Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot in things racial, we have always been, and we, I believe, continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards" I do. http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/news/crime/taco-bell-shooting-victim-was-holding-leash-not-weapon-4-4-2012

The Florida Gun carry permit application is here: http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/cgi-bin/LicWebDownloadTrkNumPDF.exe?STEP=REQ&DLCOUNT=0&APPTYPE=CW&STARTPAGE=1 http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/forms/Temp/T044618814.pdf#page=1 Looks like it's 47 pages long with all the information attached. I didn't see anything with regard to being included when buying 10 pounds of oranges. Maybe that's a secrete provision known only to Floridians? It does state on the first page: "A license permits you to carry a weapon or firearm concealed on your person. It does not authorize you to use that weapon or firearm. Such usage is regulated by other provisions of Florida law."

I think the question still stands; Could a white person kill an unarmed person of another ethnicity and not even be held for questioning here in San Diego county? Answer: YES, we see it regularly... Can we say the same when a person of a different ethnicity or color kills a white person? I don't think the Zahau murder was about race, it was about money, power, and influence.
