Poway Rodeo Celebrates 40 Years of Fun

Poway Days continues this weekend with the 40th annual rodeo.

Of all the events that make up the month-long Poway Days celebration, few are as anticipated as the rodeo, held this year on Friday and Saturday.

First held in 1973, the Poway Rodeo draws crowds from all over San Diego County to see bull riders, barrel racing, steer wrestling and drill teams, just to name a few of the attractions.

Events for kids this year include a boot scramble, which will be held before the start of the rodeo on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Kids will give up one of their shoes and race to find it on the other side of the arena. Spots are limited and can be reserved online, plus a signed application and minor release will be required. Forms can be found in the PDF section of this article.

There will also be junior barrel racing and mutton busting, but applications are no longer being accepted.

For the adults, a 21-and-older dance will follow the rodeo on both nights. Admission is free.
