Heat Wave on the Way Out; Mild Quake Shakes Region

The heat wave that has baked Southern California since the weekend will linger Tuesday but is expected to give way to cooler temperatures by the end of the week.

Not only has Poway endured near-record heat, but a mild 4.1.-magnitude earthquake shook the ground early this morning, striking 34 miles west of El Centro around 1:28 a.m.

Daytime highs today will be in the upper 90s to low 100s in the inland valleys, upper 100s in the lower deserts, upper 90s in the high deserts, upper 80s to low 90s at lower mountain elevations and in the 80s in coastal areas, according to the National Weather Service.

“Daytime humidities will be in the teens for inland areas, resulting in continued fire weather concerns,” according to an NWS advisory.

Today: Sunny, with a high near 94. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the morning.

Tonight: Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 62. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Wednesday: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 90. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Wednesday night: Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 61. West wind around 5 mph becoming east in the evening.

Thursday: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday night: Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a low around 62.
