YOU'RE INVITED!

While fundraising continues for the Martin and Delia Gold Neighborhood Healthcare Center in Poway, the New Healthcare Center/Valley Parkway is ready to open it's doors. You're invited to the open house on Thursday, Aug. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. The new facility replaces the one on Hickory Street in Escondido and will offer primary care services, women's health and an educational teen program. The ribbon-cutting will be at 4:00pm, after which guests can enjoy refreshments, tour the new facility and learn about their programs. At 5 p.m., Escondido Mayor Sam Abed will read a proclamation and congratulate the staff. The new Neighborhood Healthcare Center is located at 728 E. Valley Parkway in Escondido. Call 760-737-6900.

BACK TO NATURE

If your kids are between 6 and 10, here's a fun thing they can do this weekend. They can become a Junior Nature Ranger at Blue Sky Reserve. This Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8 to 10 a.m., docents will lead the children through a series of activities so they can experience nature first hand, have fun doing it and then receive a certificate at the end. Blue Sky Reserve is located off Espola Road in Poway. Group size is limited so call to reserve a spot at 858-668-4781.

PARENTS' NIGHT OUT

That's what the Rancho Family YMCA has been offering up this summer. Why should the kids have all the fun? Enjoy some adult time this Saturday, August 3, between 6:00pm and 10:00pm, and be assured your kids will be well-cared-for in a fun place with games, sports and movies. They're able to handle ages 3 to 13 who are “potty-trained”. The YMCA is at 9410 Fairgrove Lane in Rancho Penasquitos. It's $13 for members. Call 858-484-8869.

POWAY PARADE AND 5K NEEDS SPONSORS AND VOLUNTEERS

The 49th Poway Parade and 5K Fun Run is just 6 weeks away on Saturday, Sept. 7, presented by the Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps Foundation. The 5K will start at 7 a.m. in Poway Community Park. At the same time the Poway Kiwanis Club will put on a pancake breakfast in the finish area. Then the parade starts at 9 a.m. on its traditional route from Poway and Pomerado, east on Poway Road to Bowron.

The parade web site is fully live at www.powayparade.org. You can click to register for the 5K, for a parade entry, to donate or become a sponsor and to volunteer.  All of those are needed as soon as possible and volunteers can help now and especially day-of. Money raised will help with costs such as grand stands, port-a-potties, printing and more. Any money left over will stay in Poway and will be used by Poway Rotary for its on-going community projects. Log on to www.powayparade.org and help us continue a great tradition. See photos from last year’s parade on our Poway Parade Facebook page.
