Mickey Cafagna Memorial Golf Classic

The Poway Chamber of Commerce
will host the first annual Mickey Cafagna Memorial Golf Classic on Friday,
February 28, 2014. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and shotgun start at noon. The
event will be held at Maderas Golf Club in Poway, recently named a 2014 Top 100 Public Course in the U.S. by Golf Digest.

The Poway Chamber Board of Directors elected to honor the
well-loved former Mayor of Poway, Mickey Cafagna, by establishing this annual
event in his memory. Mickey Cafagna was one of the most respected and
well-liked elected officials in the city’s history and distinguished himself by
his thoughtful leadership both on behalf of our community as well as for the
betterment of our entire region. "Honoring Mickey in this way means so
much to our family," said Cafagna's widow, Sharon. "Mickey was so
proud of Poway and the folks who make our community special. Knowing people are
gathering in his memory at Maderas, a course he loved, would certainly put a
smile on his face."

As Mayor, Cafagna represented Poway in the San Diego
Association of Governments (SANDAG), serving for a time as its chairman. His
many other contributions include championing the construction of Poway's city
hall and of the South Poway Business Park on Scripps Poway Parkway, his efforts
to fund much-needed improvements to freeways and transit systems, and his
leadership during the Cedar and Witch Creek fires of 2003 and 2007,
respectively. Cafagna (July 26, 1943 - April 11, 2009) was the third elected
mayor of the city of Poway, California, serving from 1998 until his death in
2009.

“Maderas is thrilled to partner with the Poway
Chamber to host the inaugural memorial Mickey Cafagna golf classic.  As long time members of the chamber, I can
speak to the value of this special partnership.  Networking, B2B
opportunities and the chance to really connect with the people in
Poway that really makes a difference in setting this organization apart from
the others.  Our team is looking forward to this marquee event and is
grateful to be part of such an occasion that will help tell Mickey’s remarkable
story,” said Bill O’Brien, General Manager, Maderas Golf Club.
