Thurgood Marshall
Middle School to Host Free eWaste Recycling Fundraising Event
to Benefit Scripps Ranch High School Cheerleaders
San Diego, CA –
Thurgood Marshall Middle School, Scripps Ranch Cheerleaders, and Recycle San
Diego have joined forces to host a free eWaste recycling event at Thurgood
Marshall Middle School on Saturday, October 12th, from 10am-2pm in the school’s
parking lot at 9700 Avenue of Nations.
Computer
processing power doubles approximately every two years, rendering many models
‘obsolete’ in a relatively short period of time. Only 15% of these computers get recycled,
which means 85% of them end up in landfills.
By managing this eWaste event, Recycle San Diego will divert thousands
of pounds of eWaste from our local landfills, and also support Scripps Ranch
High School’s cheerleaders by donating a portion of the proceeds.
Items that can be
recycled include: computers, monitors, TVs, laptops, cables, printers, fax
machines, scanners, DVD players, VCRs, and other electronic items. Items that cannot be taken at this event
include appliances, exercise machines, large office equipment, ink
cartridges/toner, microwaves, light bulbs, and alkaline batteries.

Recycle San Diego
wishes to remind the public that it is illegal to dispose of e-Waste in the
trash and California requires that companies recycle their e-Waste. California currently has the most
comprehensive landfill ban in the nation, curbing both the illegal disposal and
export of the largest category of toxic electronics which includes CRT TVs and
computer monitors.
Founded in 2006,
Recycle San Diego is the #1 community resource for San Diego County, providing
the most universal and innovative waste collection systems in the
industry. Recycle San Diego believes in
safe, environmentally friendly ways to reuse, repurpose, and recycle
electronics of all types. “We recycle
anything that plugs in or runs on batteries!”
