Q:
I am wondering about your class “for beginners”. I don’t dance, poor coordination and rhythm and the closest I have to smooth, leather soled shoes are bowling shoes. Looking at your video #1 Flatfooting Basic course, I get lost about 6 seconds in. Is this really going to be a class for beginners like me or is this more for tap dancers who want to learn a new step?

A:
Thanks for a GREAT question. The class is specifically designed for completely novice beginners. The A.S.P.S. Flatfoot 101 course, begins with teaching 10 simple motions--how to find the downbeat in a song, then moves on to 6-10 simple steps. I make it a point to "Meet the people where they are". I will slow things down until we reach a pace that is suitable for everyone. I like to start things much more simply, because I believe it enables each person to find their own unique style.

Do not be afraid! ANYONE can do this class. Bowling shoes are acceptable. As long as YOU like them.
