Zoo's Pair of Malayan Tiger Cubs Open Their Eyes

The two-week old cubs have opened their eyes and are gaining strength (and pounds).

1. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego county rose Tuesday to $4.20 for the 19th day in a row, according to AAA and Oil Price Information Service. This was the second consecutive increase of one-tenth of a cent, which could be an indication the increases may end soon, according to AAA.

2. The pair of 2-week-old Malayan tiger cubs at the San Diego Zoo have opened their eyes and are crawling around, according to Senior Keeper Rochelle Willison. Within two weeks, Willison said they are expected be walking better, and by three months they should be put on exhibit. The two cubs, each weighing about 7.7 pounds, will eventually grow to about 250 pounds.

3. The San Diego Chargers will begin their 2011 season against the Minnesota Vikings on September 11 at Qualcomm Stadium, according to a schedule released Tuesday by the National Football League. Six of the Chargers' first 10 opponents made the playoffs last season, and the schedule includes a November 6 game against the Green Bay Packers, a defending Super Bowl champion. Four days later, the Chargers will play against the Oakland Raiders, and the last home game will be December 18 against Baltimore.
