YMCA: More Military Families Need Holiday Help

More families have signed up to receive holiday help, according to the local YMCA.

1. With already strong demand from enlisted families for holiday assistance, volunteers with the San Diego Armed Services YMCA Wednesday went on a shopping spree for gifts at a Toys R Us store. The YMCA said 1,140 enlisted families have signed up to receive help, more than 100 over last year. For more information on how to donate, click here.

2. Transit officials say they don't anticipate any delays for Chargers fans Thursday despite threats from trolley security guards that they might walk off the job. About 200 members of the International Union of Security, Police and Fire Professionals plan a march. The guards filed an unfair labor practice claim with the National Labor Relations Board, naming Transit Systems Security and the M-T-S.

3. Four gunmen attempted to steal a promotional booth filled with cash from Barona Casino early Wednesday, firing off several shots in the process, but no one was injured and the loot was recovered after being abandoned by the robbers, authorities said. The black-clad gunmen carried handguns and rifles as they robbed the East County gaming facility about 2:20 a.m., said San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Hank Turner. Patrons playing on slot machines inside at the time later told reporters they heard gunfire and scrambled to cash out before searching for loved ones gambling in other areas of the casino.
