Woman Assaulted on UCSD Campus
The assailant appeared to be in his late 40s or 50s, according to officials.
1. A woman in her 60s suffered minor injuries late Thursday afternoon when a man attacked her at UC San Diego. The assailant, who appeared to be in his late 40s or 50s, emerged from shrubbery near the UC San Diego School of Medicine and grabbed the victim about 4 p.m., according to university officials. 2. Closing arguments were expected to conclude Friday, giving way to jury deliberations in the trial of a young man accused in the fatal shooting of an El Capitan High School student whose body was found on the Barona Indian Reservation last fall. Stanley Virgil Lloyd Jr., 19, is charged with first-degree murder in October 2010 death of 17-year-old Christopher Carioscia. The Lakeside teen went missing Oct. 26, 2010, after telling his family he was going surfing in Pacific Beach. The next day, his burned-out car was found on the tribal grounds south of Ramona, and on Dec. 4, detectives found his body near the San Vicente Reservoir. Read the full story on .
3. A half-dozen suspected international drug traffickers were behind bars Thursday following the discovery of a highly sophisticated cross- border drug-smuggling tunnel running between warehouses in Otay Mesa and Tijuana, the second major find of its kind this month. A total of 23 tons of bundled marijuana was stashed inside the deluxe passageway when the San Diego Tunnel Task Force found it Tuesday following a six-month investigation, federal officials said at an afternoon news conference.
