What You Need to Know for Fourth of July

Celebrate Independence Day with a few things in mind.

1. Government offices, courts, schools, libraries, banks and post offices will be closed Monday for Independence Day. In addition, all county facilities will be closed, except for parks and the Metropolitan Transit System buses and trolleys will operate on a Sunday schedule, but express buses will not run. The average price is 6.4 cents less than one week ago and 22.4 cents lower than one month ago but 63.1 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

3. The tall ship Californian will be setting sail for Catalina Island July 22-25 and Oct. 7-10 with a few hearty mates willing to sign on for $675 per person. The four-day, three-night trips include all costs, including the use of kayaks after the 130-foot topsail schooner drops its hook at Catalina.
