1. A blanket drive is scheduled today to help military veterans at the winter shelter and the annual Stand Down event. About 2,000 twin-size blankets, new or gently used, are needed. Men's clothing and outerwear would also be helpful. Donations will be accepted until 2 p.m. at the Veterans Village of San Diego, 4141 Pacific Highway.
2. The guided-missile frigate USS Gary is scheduled to deploy from Naval Station San Diego this morning on a drug interdiction mission in the eastern Pacific Ocean. The ship will work with a U.S. Coast Guard law enforcement squad that will conduct boarding operations.
3. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose today to its highest amount since Oct. 15, 2008, increasing 1.3 cents to $3.381.
