USS Green Bay Sailor Could Face Vandalism Charges

Video showed Edward Roth, a Navy man, kicking dents and smashing windows of a car.

1. Charges could be filed Monday against a sailor accused of  breaking out windows on 14 cars and vandalizing an office at a Mission Valley car dealership in the city of San Diego, causing more than $50,000 worth of damage. Edward Roth, 22, identified as a Navy man aboard the USS Green Bay, an amphibious transport dock, was arrested early on Nov. 19, and video of the rampage later surfaced. Roth, who is free on bail, was ordered to return to court today following prosecutors' review of the case, said District Attorney spokesman Steve Walker. Video showed Roth throwing a cell phone at a car, then kicking dents in the door before smashing out windows with a club. What set him off was not disclosed.

2. Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk is scheduled to light what's being touted as the world's largest Lego Christmas tree at Legoland California in Carlsbad on Monday. The ninth annual lighting ceremony will begin at 5 p.m., according to park officials. The tree stands more than 30 feet and is made of more than 245,000 forest green Duplo Lego bricks. Guests of the park Monday will also be treated to snow, fireworks and a visit from Santa Claus, park officials said. Read the full story on Carlsbad.Patch.com.

3. A pickup truck crashed into a power pole at the North Gate to Camp Pendleton Sunday, closing the road just east of Interstate 5. No one was apparently hurt in the crash, which was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 7:15 a.m. Military police closed the north gate to the sprawling Marine base, and the CHP closed Cristianitos Road just east of the interchange at the freeway. Signs were being brought in to warn base traffic that a long-term closure would be needed to allow SDGE crews to repair the damage.
