San Diego County's unemployment rate was 9.6 percent in May, down from the 9.8 percent in April.

1. The Salvation Army Kroc Center turns nine years old this weekend, and an anniversary celebration was held Friday with a private barbecue and pool party for about 300 members, staff and volunteers. The event was "an intimate affair with people who really love the Kroc Center,'' spokeswoman Maria Todaro said. A bigger splash is planned for next year's 10th anniversary, she said.

2. San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis Friday announced a new web page for the public to access basic information on open criminal cases, as well as receive email notification of court dates for specific cases. Dumanis said, "It is important that members of the public—especially victims—interested in our cases have a place where they can easily find basic information. This web page is in keeping with our office's commitment to openness and transparency and allows anyone to access up-to-date information online about criminal cases.''

3. The unemployment rate in San Diego County was 9.6 percent in May, down from the 9.8 percent in April and lower than the 10.1 percent recorded in the same period in 2010, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday. The numbers are not seasonally adjusted.
