UCSD Chancellor Announces Resignation

Marye Anne Fox's resignation will be effective in June 2012.

1. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell two-tenths of a cent Wednesday to $3.769, one day after a stretch of 56 declines in 58 days ended when it was unchanged. The average price is at its lowest point since Feb. 27 and 4.2 cents less than one week ago and 20.9 cents lower than one month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

2. Retail giant Target Corp. will pay $160,000 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit in which the company was accused of failing to provide reasonable accommodations to a cart attendant with cerebral palsy at an Orange County store, it was announced Tuesday. According to the suit filed in 2009 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Target hired Jeremy Schott in 2002 as a part-time stocker. Schott, who suffers from cerebral palsy, has limited intellectual functioning and a seizure disorder, took a medical leave in 2004 due to a seizure, and his work hours were cut to as few as eight per week when he returned, according to the lawsuit. His disabilities required that he be reminded to do things and that a job coach assist him at times with his duties and job-related meetings, according to the lawsuit. The commission's lawsuit said that while Schott succeeded early on with help from a job coach and task reminders, Target later failed to ensure the presence of a coach during work-related and job performance meetings.

3. UC San Diego Chancellor Marye Anne Fox announced her resignation Wednesday, effective in June 2012. Fox, who took the top job at UCSD seven years ago, did not give a reason other than to say she will return to teaching chemistry and researching at the school. Read the full story .
