Stanley Lloyd Jr. Homicide Trial Begins Tuesday

The trial of Stanley Lloyd Jr. in the death of Christopher Carioscia is due to begin Tuesday.

1. Opening statements are set to begin in El Cajon Tuesday in the trial of a 19-year-old man accused in the fatal shooting of a teenager from Lakeside. Stanley Lloyd Junior allegedly killed 17-year-old Christopher Carioscia and dumped his body in a remote part of the Barona Indian Reservation last winter. The motive for the murder is unclear. Close relatives of a woman found dead in a mysterious hanging at Coronado's Spreckels Mansion last summer vehemently disputed the official suicide ruling in the case during an appearance on the "Dr. Phil" program broadcast Monday. Mary Zahau-Loehner of Missouri told television talk show host Phil McGraw she was convinced that her younger sister, 32-year-old Rebecca Zahau, did not take her own life at the 103-year-old mansion owned by her pharmaceutical-tycoon boyfriend. 3. A registered nurse accused of fatally shooting his estranged wife and her male friend after watching them cuddle in her Sabre Springs apartment will undergo an evaluation to determine if he is mentally competent to stand trial, a judge ruled Monday. Melchor Marabante, 42, is charged with murdering his 23-year-old wife, Valerie, and her colleague and friend, 26-year-old Bernabe Villamar, last Feb. 20.
