Sewage Contamination Threatens San Diego County Beaches

Authorities banned swimming in certain beaches because of a likely flush of sewage-contaminated storm runoff from the Tijuana River.

1. Authorities Saturday banned swimming and surfing from Imperial Beach to the Mexican border because of a likely flush of sewage-contaminated storm runoff from the Tijuana River. The water contact closure area stretches from the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge north to Carnation Avenue, on Imperial Beach's north end, according to San Diego County's Department of Environmental Health.

2. Camp Pendleton Marines  commemorated the 66th anniversary of the bloody and heroic Battle of Iwo Jima. The island south of Japan was where the iconic photograph was taken of Marines raising an American flag in the heat of battle.

3. It will be mostly cloudy in Poway Sunday with highs in the 50s.
