Service Planned for Slain Officer

A San Diego police officer who was gunned down in the line of duty last weekend will be remembered at a ceremony later this week. Police are planning to honor 36-year-old Jeremy Henwood at The Rock Church in Liberty Station on Friday. A ceremonial police motorcade will precede the late-morning funeral. Police say Henwood was shot by 23-year-old Dejon White in an unprovoked attack. White was killed by police a short time later. Police say he was suicidal.

A North County couple is in mourning today following the death of their 3-year-old son who choked on a push-pin at the Montessori School of Oceanside. Authorities say Tyler Howell of Oceanside died Monday afternoon of asphyxiation due to airway obstruction. The boy's teacher told authorities that he made a gasping sound, grabbed his neck and became unresponsive. Paramedics rushed him to an emergency room, but it was too late.

It will be mostly sunny throughout the county today once some morning fog burns off. Highs today will be 69 to 74 degrees along the coast 72 to 77 in the western valleys 79 to 84 near the foothills 77 to 87 in the mountains and 101 to 105 in the deserts.
