SEALS from San Diego-Based Ship Board Pirate Vessel after California Couple Killed

San Diego-based destroyer USS Sterett had been shadowing Jean and Scott Adams' 58-foot sailboat before they were killed.

1. A Catholic couple from Marina Del Rey, who made their life work distributing Bibles, was killed by Somali pirates after a rocket-propelled grenade was launched at the San Diego-based destroyer, USS Sterett, Navy officials report.

The Sterett had been shadowing Jean and Scott Adams' 58-foot sailboat Quest since it was taken in open waters off Oman Friday, and Navy SEALS boarded the vessel in response to the attack.

However, Navy Vice Adm. Mark Fox said it was too late — the couple and sailing mates Phyllis Macay and Bob Riggle of Seattle had been fatally shot.
