SDG&E Files $3.6B 'Smart Grid' Plan with State Regulators

San Diego Gas & Electric's power grid is an effort to make greater use of renewable energy

1. A $3.6 billion plan to overhaul San Diego Gas & Electric's power grid and make greater use of renewable energy was filed with state regulators Monday. SDG&E's plan to deploy a "smart grid'' through the rest of this decade is designed to give customers multiple choices for energy use, and allow for increasing numbers of solar panels and plug-in vehicles.

2. NFL stadiums generally run annual deficits between $8 million to $12 million, and none operate profitably, a city consultant told a San Diego City Council committee Monday. According to Jeff Cohen of AECOM, which produced a $184,000 study on Qualcomm Stadium, "The average NFL stadium is $8- to $10- to $12-million in the negative on an annual basis."

3. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline in San Diego County is $3.96.7. That's 4.8 cents less than a week ago and 30.7 cents less than this time last month but it's still more than this time last year by 89.7 cents.
