SANDAG Board of Directors to Meet Friday

Also in today's Daily Dig, President Obama will visit San Diego on Monday.

1. The San Diego Association of Governments’ board of directors will meet Friday from 9 a.m. to noon in downtown San Diego. The agenda includes an implementation plan for the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor. A PDF of the agenda is attached to this story.

2. President Barack Obama will visit Los Angeles and San Diego next week during a West Coast presidential campaign swing. The president will arrive in Los Angeles Monday and later that day fly to San Diego, a White House statement said. The West Coast swing also includes a visit to Seattle.

3. The fall quarter started Thursday for about 29,000 students at UC San Diego. The student body includes an estimated 3,400 incoming freshmen, who had a combined high school grade-point average of 3.96, and a record 2,750 transfer students. The students moved into new on-campus housing, which includes 805 additional beds in The Village—a cluster of dormitories that has a new table-service restaurant and sushi bar—and recently completed apartments at John Muir and Revelle Colleges. The school will open a restaurant with a vegan/vegetarian menu near John Muir College later this fall.
