San Diego County Gas Prices Fall for 5th Consecutive Day

The average price of a gallon of gasoline is $3.785, the lowest since July 13.

1. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell Monday for the fifth consecutive day, dropping six-tenths of a cent to $3.785, the lowest since July 13. The average price is 6.8 cents less than one week ago, but 3.2 cents more than one month ago and 64.9 cents higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The average price fell four-tenths of a cent both Thursday and Friday, 1.1 cents Saturday and 1 cent Sunday.

2. A San Diego police officer, surprised by a shotgun blast from a car at a City Heights intersection, died Sunday at Scripps Mercy Hospital, Chief William Lansdowne said. Officer Jeremy Henwood, 36, a four-year veteran on the police force, died at 1:42 a.m. at Scripps Mercy Hospital, the chief said at an afternoon news conference. 3. A 54-year-old man threatening suicide, and mimicking that he had a gun and would shoot intervening officers, was shot and killed by CHP officers on the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge. San Diego Police and the California Highway Patrol received a call about a man standing on the bridge in the westbound traffic lanes at 1:29 a.m. Saturday, SDPD Lt. Ernie Herbert said.
