San Diego County Gas Prices Fall for 2nd Consecutive Day

The average price is eight-tenths of a cent less than one week ago, but 67.4 cents higher than one year ago.

1. The first hands-on rearing of a critically endangered white-bellied heron in Bhutan was successful thanks to a pair of bird experts with the San Diego Zoo Safari Park who spent three months in the small Asian nation this year, park officials said Thursday. Only 26 of the large wetlands birds are believed to be left in Bhutan and about 50 in the world, according to the park. Bhutan is a land-locked nation between China and India, and lies at the southern base of the Himalayan mountains.

2. Federal agents raided a Sorrento Valley biopharmaceutical company Thursday as part of an investigation into possible white-collar crimes allegedly involving the drug maker. Personnel with the FBI and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Inspector General served a search warrant at the Sorrento Valley Road offices of NexBio about 8 a.m., FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth said.

3. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell four-tenths of a cent for the second consecutive day Friday and now stands at $3.812. The average price is eight-tenths of a cent less than one week ago, but 4.3 cents more than one month ago and 67.4 cents higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline nationally is $3.70, 93.5 cents more than one year ago.
