San Diego County Gas Prices Fall for 16th Consecutive Day

The average price of a gallon of gasoline is 57.8 cents higher than a year ago.

1. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County declined Friday for the 16th consecutive day, dropping four-tenths of a cent to $3.715, the lowest amount since Feb. 25. The average price is 3.7 cents less than one week ago and 9.6 cents
lower than a month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. However, it is 57.8 cents higher than a year ago.

2. The Metropolitan Transit System Thursday unveiled a lovingly restored 1946 streetcar that will carry riders on a downtown circuit. The Art Deco-style vehicle once traversed the streets of San Francisco and is one of six that the MTS has in its possession. It was "a rusty shell'' when discovered in 2003 in South Lake Tahoe and has been turned into "a great beauty,'' MTS Chief Executive Officer Paul Jablonski said.

3. The consumer price index in San Diego County rose by 2.3 percent in the first six months of 2011, and climbed 3.4 percent over the
past year, according to data released Thursday by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. Higher prices for gasoline and food contributed to the increase, Regional Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Richard Holden said.
