Visitors from Ramona, Scripps Ranch and San Diego were among the families visiting Wynola, three miles south of Julian Saturday, to bring their children for a first experience in the white stuff.
Snow plows cleared state Route 78/79 to Julian throughout the day. No chains were required in the afternoon. About a foot of snow may fall in the area Saturday night, bringing the snow level down to 2,000 feet. Wynola was shrouded with fog, with icy road conditions by nightfall. Motorists should take chains or check with the California Highway Patrol before driving above the snow level through Sunday morning.
Many of the visitors Saturday warmed up at Wynola Pizza, where they could watch snowflakes showering nearby oak-filled pastures through the windows.
