Report: Cost of Living in San Diego County Increases

It costs a family of three nearly $63,000 to be self-sufficient in San Diego County, according to the Insight Center for Community Economic Development.

It costs a family of three nearly $63,000 to be self-sufficient in San Diego County, about $10,000 more than three years ago, according to a study released Tuesday by the Insight Center for Community Economic Development. The organization tallied the price of housing, food and health care, as well as transportation costs, child care and taxes, for a family with one adult, a school-age child and a preschooler.

2. A former Marine convicted of killing three prostitutes in Illinois will be brought to Southern California this week to stand trial for allegedly killing five women in San Diego, Orange and Riverside counties between 1986 and 1995. Andrew Urdiales, 47, was taken from an Illinois prison yesterday by federal marshals and was expected to arrive at the Orange County Jail on Thursday, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, which will handle the prosecution for all of the killings.

3. San Diego State University announced Tuesday that it will become the first college on the West Coast to offer a degree in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies. The California State University Chancellor's Office approved the program last week, according to SDSU. It will begin accepting students next spring.
