Partly Cloudy Weather Expected Friday

It will be partly cloudy with gusty winds throughout the region.

1. A radioactive plume emanating from the nuclear reactors crippled by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan last week is expected to reach Southern California Friday but San Diego County health officials say there is no reason to take iodine tablets. They say San Diego-area residents do not need to take potassium iodide tablets to protect themselves from Japan's nuclear emergency because the level of incoming radiation is not expected to be hazardous. 2. A Ramona music teacher who molested three sisters is scheduled to be sentenced Friday. Forty-eight-year-old Mark Lewis Kinney was convicted last month of seven child molestation counts and one count of possession of child pornography. A jury acquitted him on two additional child molestation charges. He faces up to 32 years in state prison. Read the full story .

3. It will be partly cloudy throughout the county Friday with gusty winds in the mountains and deserts. Also, a high surf advisory is in effect for the beaches until 2 p.m. this afternoon. Highs Friday will be 61 to 66 degrees along the coast, 63 to 68 in the valleys, 54 to 64 in the mountains and 76 to 81 in the deserts.
