Prices Drop at the Pump Again

Gas prices are down again after it increased Monday.

1. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell seven-tenths of a cent Tuesday to $3.925, the lowest since March 7, one day after a 37-day streak of decreases ended with an increase of one-tenth of a cent. The average price is 4.2 cents less than one week ago and 29.2 cents lower than one month ago but 86.1 cents higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

2. The 6,000 sailors, Marines and airmen aboard the USS Carl Vinson feel "good'' about their part in a history-making mission that included the burial at sea of terrorist Osama bin Laden, the San Diego-based aircraft carrier's commanding officer said Tuesday. Capt. Bruce Lindsey told reporters in a conference call that "They are feeling good about what they accomplished in this mission."

3. Entomologists at the San Diego Zoo Tuesday introduced a giant female spider to three males of the same species in hopes that they will mate and produce hundreds of offspring. The Goliath bird-eating spiders are the largest species of arachnid -- about the size of a human hand -- and can eat small birds or reptiles, according to Chris Mooney, a San Diego Zoo's entomology keeper.
