Preliminary Hearing Scheduled for Teens Accused of Fatal Craigslist Robbery

1. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday morning for three teenage gang members accused of killing a college student after luring him to Paradise Hills to rob him. Rashon Abernathy, Shaquille Jordan and Seandell Jones allegedly posted an ad for a $600 computer on Craigslist to lure 18-year-old Garrett Berki to a meeting last May. San Diego police say Berki thought he was buying the computer but was robbed and shot instead. Tuesday's hearing will determine whether there's enough evidence to order all three defendants to stand trial for murder in adult court.

2. Gov. Jerry Brown Monday vetoed a bill by Sen. Juan Vargas, D-San Diego, that would have prevented construction of the Gregory Canyon landfill off Interstate 15 in the rural North County was vetoed, the governor's office announced Monday. SB 833 would have prohibited any landfill within 1,000 feet of the San Luis Rey River, or an aquifer feeding into the river, or from a site that is considered to be sacred or is of spiritual or cultural importance to a federally recognized Indian tribe.

3. Carlsbad police are investigating a shooting in which three young people were wounded. Police say one of the victims suffered critical injuries in Monday night's shooting on Madison Street. A boyfriend and girlfriend and a male acquaintance were reportedly on a walk when words were exchanged with a carload of people. Police say a passenger then got out of the vehicle and opened fire with a handgun. Find the full story on .
