An 18-year-old Rancho Peñasquitos woman who allegedly got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol was arrested in the wake of a hit-and-run accident that killed a pedestrian on Interstate 8 in the Ocean Beach area, a California Highway Patrol officer reported Monday.
Nikolette Kristina Gallo was taken into custody at her home about noon Sunday, nearly eight hours after a passer-by found the body of 23-year-old Sho Funai alongside the freeway, just east of Nimitz Boulevard, CHP public affairs Officer Art Athans said.
Rainy weekend possible
A strong Pacific storm will bring high surf, heavy rain and snow to San Diego County this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm will move inland through California late in the week through early next week, with the main impacts on southwest California occurring Friday night through early Monday, according to the NWS.
Lawmaker trips disclosed
A number of San Diego County lawmakers were treated to all-expense-paid trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Israel and Italy last year, according to new disclosure reports.
The trips were sponsored by nonprofits that receive contributions from corporations, utilities, labor unions, environmentalists and other Capitol power brokers with a stake in budgets and legislation, U-T San Diego reported.
