A 20-year-old man was in custody Tuesday on suspicion of committing an early Christmas morning burglary in Los Angeles County and stealing more than 40 Christmas presents from a home in Vista three days earlier.

A Westlake Village man woke up around 3:30 a.m. Sunday to the sound of a burglar in his home in the 4000 block of Whitesail Circle, confronted the intruder and chased him a short distance before losing him, said Lt. James Royal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Malibu/Lost Hills Station. Among the items taken from the home was an Apple iPad.

"Later that morning, the victim called the station and told the deputies his iPad was "pinging'  from a nearby home," Royal said. "Deputies responded to the location, located the iPad, and arrested the suspect."

The suspect was identified as Patrick Krewson, 20, of Vista.

Krewson was booked into jail in Los Angeles County on suspicion of carrying out the Westlake Village burglary and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. San Diego authorities will file additional charges against him for the Vista burglary.

Searching for Gunman

Robbery detectives Tuesday were looking for a gunman who held up a San Diego gas station, a police officer said.

The robbery at the Arco station in the 2500 block of Morena Boulevard was reported at 6:41 p.m. Monday, said San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The suspect "entered the business, produced a gun, demanded cash and was last seen leaving northbound on Morena Boulevard," he said.

The suspect was described as a five-foot-tall Hispanic man, with a medium build, wearing a blue hooded sweat shirt and black gloves, Delimitros said. The amount of cash taken was not disclosed.

No one was injured.
