Pendleton General to Lead Probe of Desecration Video

A three-star general based at Camp Pendleton will head investigations into the widely publicized video that appears to show four Marines urinating on the corpses of enemy fighters in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Friday.

Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Thomas Waldhauser, commander of Marine Corps Forces Central Command, will serve as the "consolidated disposition authority" in reviewing allegations stemming from the graphic images, which became public via Internet postings this week, according to a statement from the Department of Defense.

A woman who stood by and documented her husband's sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl in their Spring Valley apartment, then downloaded the photos to a computer that he took aboard his Navy ship, was sentenced Friday to 25 years in federal prison.

Rachel Ann Wyly, 27, was also ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Janis Sammartino to register as a sex offender.

She was convicted last October of sexual exploitation of a child.

Five Charged in Sweetwater Scandal Plead Not Guilty

The ex-superintendent of the Sweetwater Union High School District and four other people pleaded not guilty Friday to bribery, perjury and other charges.

Former SUHSD Superintendent Jesus Gandara, trustees Arlie Ricasa and Pearl Quinones, 16-year former board member Greg Sandoval, and Henry Amigable, an executive who worked for a construction company hired by the school district, all remain free on their own recognizance.

Gandara, 55, Sandoval, 58, Quinones, 59, and Ricasa, 47, are charged with perjury, filing a false document and other charges. Amigable, 47, is charged with giving or offering a bribe.

Judge Michael Smyth scheduled a status conference for March 23.
