North County Assisted-Living Resident Jailed on Suspicion of Assault

1. The San Diego Zoo's youngest giant panda nibbled on an elaborate cake of ice, bamboo and fruit Friday during a celebration of his second birthday. Yun Zi, whose name means "son of cloud,'' is the son of Bai Yun, a female who has given birth to five cubs in her nearly 20 years, and Gao Gao, which means "Big Big.''

2. A resident of a North County assisted-living home was jailed on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon Friday shortly after he
allegedly stabbed the manager of the facility, a sheriff's official said.
Dwain Glover, whose age was not immediately available, allegedly attacked the other man at the residence in the 1600 block of Watson Way in Vista shortly before 11 a.m., Sgt. Pat O'Brien said.

3. The San Diego County District Attorney's Office announced Friday that no charges would be filed against a former San Diego police officer who was accused of raping a woman in El Cajon. Officer Art Perea was placed on unpaid leave following the woman's accusations in February, was suspended in February and has since resigned.
