According to a witness who was traveling directly behind the victim, the motorcyclist tried to make a right hand turn at a curve with a speed limit of 25 mph while going about 40 mph. The driver continued straight into the curve while his motorcycle slid out from under him, Bettencourt said.

He was ejected from his bike and crashed into a metal guard rail.

Arraignment Scheduled for Pacific Beach Man

A man who allegedly threw his puppy at two San Diego police officers and then attacked them outside his Pacific Beach home is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at the downtown courthouse.

Tyler Torres, 31, was arrested at about 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 16, following a nearly two-hour standoff with police SWAT units.

Officers responded to a disturbance call about a tenant playing loud music at an apartment complex on Ingraham Street and La Playa Avenue at 10:44 p.m., said SDPD Officer David Stafford.

When officers arrived, Torres opened his front door and threw his small puppy at them, Stafford said, adding that Torres also physically attacked the officers, punching them in the head and face before running back inside. Torres also told the officers he had a gun, and threatened to shoot them, Stafford said.

The SWAT team was called and took Torres into custody after the nearly two-hour standoff.

Some residents living nearby were evacuated during the SWAT action. At the same time, officers fired non-lethal pepper-ball rounds at the balcony while Torres swore at them repeatedly, police said.

The injured officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment. One male officer suffered a broken nose, while his female partner had a mild concussion, Stafford said.
