HELP THOSE THAT HELP THE ANIMALS

The Escondido Humane Society is the only shelter in San Diego County in the Qualifying Heat for the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, and it is seeking the community’s votes to move on to the next round. People can vote one time per day at www.escondidohumanesociety.org or www.votetosavelives.org. Voting is as easy as one click and takes less than a minute, and it could help the Humane Society win up to $100,000 for homeless animals in San Diego County. Everyone 13 and older is eligible to participate. Voting ends at 9 p.m. Monday, April 16. For more information, call (760) 888-2240 or visit www.escondidohumanesociety.org.

Win Two Tickets To See the Dalai Lama

Tickets for the Dalai Lama’s appearance at UC San Diego on April 18 were gone within hours, but Patch is conducting a photo contest that ends on Friday morning, with two tickets as the grand prize. The Tibetan spiritual leader will be talking about global warming, climate change and its effects on humans and the economy. Here’s how you can win the tickets: Take a photo of yourself incorporating environmentally conscious practices in your everyday life. That can be anything from shopping with a reusable grocery bag, composting in your back yard, or rolling up your sleeves for a beach cleanup. Short videos will be accepted, too.
