Investigation Under Way into Camp Pendleton Helicopter Crash

Six crew members have been hospitalized after a Huey crashed at Camp Pendleton near the border with San Clemente on Wednesday afternoon.

1. An investigation was under way Thursday into a helicopter crash at Camp Pendleton that killed one Marine and injured five others in the third fatal accident this year at the North County installation. A Miramar-based Bell UH-1Y Huey went down about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday in the San Mateo area, near Camp Pendleton's border with San Clemente, according to a statement from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, where the aircraft is stationed. 2. A gorilla recently born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park was named "Monroe,'' it was announced Wednesday. Monroe and his mother, Kokamo, have developed a strong bond and are on display with the rest of his troop, according to park officials.

3. From the top place to have a family picnic to the best baby-nursing lounge, San Diego Family Magazine Wednesday released a readers poll of the best places in various categories around San Diego and Southern California. Lake Poway was rated the best place to watch ducks, according to the poll, which attracted votes from hundreds of readers. La Jolla Shores, De Anza Cove at Mission Bay and the Coronado Ferry Landing also earned high scores.
