Holiday Closures Continue on Monday

Holiday Closures

City, county, state and federal facilities will be closed Monday in observance of the Christmas holiday.

City of San Diego golf courses will be open, but the Balboa Park and Torrey Pines courses will close at 5 p.m. Monday. The Mission Trails Regional Park Visitors Center and Chollas Lake was closed Sunday but reopens today.

The Metropolitan Transit System's trolley trains will operate on a Saturday schedule Monday, as will most MTS buses.

Mount Carmel Crash

One person was transported to the hospital Sunday after his vehicle rolled off the roadway and hit an electrical box.

The crash occurred on Mount Carmel Road near Senda Luna Llena about 12:04 p.m., San Diego police Officer Jane Jacobsen said.

According to San Diego Gas & Electric, damage to the electrical box did not create any power outages, but it did cause a small vegetation fire that was put out within minutes, Jacobsen said.

Medics transported the driver, who suffered head injuries, to a local hospital, she said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

Christmas Fire

An 89-year-old woman's Escondido home was destroyed by a fire on Christmas morning.   

Firefighters saw the house on South Midway Drive near Oak Hill Drive engulfed in flames when they arrived about 7:20 a.m., an Escondido Fire Department dispatcher said.

No one was reported injured and no other structures caught fire, the dispatcher said.

The blaze was extinguished at 7:46 a.m.

Firefighters were investigating the cause of the fire, she said.
