1. The San Diego County District Attorney's Office was among the presenters at a statewide conference beginning Monday aimed at reducing recidivism and helping prisoners successfully re-enter their communities upon release. The three-day conference -- sponsored by Prison Fellowship, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the San Diego Re- Entry Roundtable -- features workshops addressing practical barriers to re- integration, cultivating collaborative relationships and developing strategies to reduce recidivism and restore prisoners to their families and communities.

2. Students and staff at UC San Diego were urged Tuesday to be extra mindful of their personal safety in the aftermath of an attempted kidnapping at the Torrey Pines-area campus. About 8 p.m. Friday, an unidentified assailant came up behind a woman as she walked on a path just west of UCSD's Geisel Library, pulled a paper bag down over her head and tried to drag her away. The victim was able to break free and run to safety, according to a bulletin issued by Orville King, chief of the university's police department.

3. It will be mostly sunny and warmer throughout the county Tuesday with light winds. Highs will be 68 to 73 in Poway.
